Lotemax Eye Drops is an ophthalmic suspension having generic name loteprednoletabonate. It contains a topical, sterile anti-inflammatory corticosteroid (steroids or cortisone-like medicines). This suspension contains 0.5%w/v loteprednoletabonate (5 mg/ml). It comes in milky-white color.
Lotemax Eye Drops ophthalmic solution is indicated for treating steroid-responsive inflammatory eye conditions, such as palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, allergic conjunctivitis, superficial punctate keratitis, acne rosacea, herpes zoster keratitis, cyclitis, iritis or certain other conditions. Lotemax Eye Drops is also indicated for post-operative inflammation following ocular surgery. It is used in dry eye syndrome to relieve and reduce inflammation of the ocular surface caused due to hyperosmolarity of the tears.
Corticosteroids prevent the inflammatory response to several inciting agents and delay healing. They work by inhibiting the edema, fibrin deposition, leukocyte migration, capillary dilation, capillary proliferation, fibroblast proliferation, scar formation and deposition of collagen that take place during inflammation.
The dosage of Lotemax Eye Drops medicine is dissimilar for different patients. So, the patients need to follow the doctor’s advice and the directions given on the label. It is not used in patients who require a more potent corticosteroid.
Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects such as vision problems, eye pain or no improvement of your eye condition.
If somebody misses a dose then he or she should use it as soon as they remember. If it is almost close to the time for the upcoming scheduled dose then they better skip it. Do not overuse to cover up the missed dose.
An overdose of Lotemax may be risky. Seek emergency medical assistance or call the Poison assistance Helpline if anyone has accidentally overused or swallowed the medication.
Do not wear contact lenses until the symptoms of the inflammation completely go away. Lotemax Eye Drops medicine may give temporary unclear vision and may impair your thinking or reactions for some time. Do not use other eye drops unless your doctor tells you to.
While using Lotemax Eye Drops, avoid wearing a contact lens. Also, do not use any other eye medications along with this without asking a doctor.
Many drugs interact with each other. Therefore, tell your doctor about all medications you use including prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, other eye drops, vitamins, and supplements.
Tell your doctor if you see unlikely but severe ill effects of Lotemax Eye Drops like redness in the eye, vision changes, eye pain, eye swelling, bleeding inside the eye, redness or stinging.
