Caberlin is a drug used to control the higher secretion of prolactin hormone, a condition called hyperprolactinemia. An imbalance in prolactin levels can cause issues, such as infertility, sexual health, bone loss in women, menstrual problems, and pituitary prolactinomas (tumors of the pituitary gland). Caberlin helps in damage control by reducing the production of prolactin. It mainly acts on your brain to inhibit the secretion of prolactin hormone from the pituitary gland. It is a prescription-based drug, which is discontinued when prolactin level is normal.
Caberlin contains an active component called Cabergoline, which is a dopamine agonist. Various drugs in this class show similar effects. The secretion of prolactin by the anterior pituitary is managed and controlled by hypothalamic inhibitory control through dopamine. Dopamine is a brain chemical that stimulates different activities, and one of them is the production of the prolactin hormone. Caberlin binds the dopamine receptors and controls dopamine levels. This way, it effectively works for the reduction of prolactin.
