Prazopress XL contains prazosin, which belongs to the group of drugs called alpha-blockers. The drug acts as an agonist at alpha-adrenergic receptors that are found on vascular smooth muscle. These receptors are responsible for causing vasoconstriction of the blood vessels. By inhibiting alpha-adrenergic receptors on the smooth muscles, Prazopress XL acts as a vasodilator, relaxing and dilating the blood vessels so the blood can flow freely across the body. This is how the drug lowers your blood pressure.

• Your doctor may advise Prazopress XL 2.5 mg or 5 mg, once daily, preferably in the morning with food.
• You must take a whole pill with a glass of water. Do not split, break, crush, or chew the pill. If you chew or crush the pill before intake, the drug may not work.
• Use Prazopress XL regularly to get the most benefit from the drug. Make sure you take it at the same time(s) every day, as advised.
• Continue taking this high blood pressure medication even if you feel well or have no symptoms. That’s because most hypertensive people have no specific symptoms unless the pressure is out of control.
• Do not stop taking this antihypertensive agent abruptly without consulting your physician. Your condition may become worse if you stop the drug abruptly.

• Your doctor will ask you whether you have any drug allergies and may not advise Prazopress XL if you have prazosin allergy.
• Your doctor will also ask you about the other medical conditions you have been suffering from, such as sleep disorders, kidney disease, prostate cancer, or any eye issues.
• It is important to tell your doctor about the medications you have been taking because Prazopress XL may interact with certain medications, especially sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis).
• During pregnancy, Prazopress XL tablets should be used only if your doctor recommends. Please have a word with your doctor about the use of this drug during pregnancy.
• Prazosin can pass into breast milk so please check with your doctor about using the drug before and during breastfeeding.

Most of these side effects subside after using Prazopress XL for some time. However, if they persist or aggravate, immediately seek medical attention. Visit your nearest ER if you experience side effects such as skin rashes, swelling of the face, chest pain, breathlessness, or extreme dizziness.

• Prazopress XL may make you drowsy or dizzy so avoid activities that need your medical attention, such as driving or using machinery.
• Abstain from alcohol or cannabis during treatment because a combination of prazosin and alcohol or cannabis can make you extremely dizzy or drowsy.
• To reduce the risk of lightheadedness or dizziness, make sure you get up slowly from a sitting or lying position. Do not stand for long periods and avoid getting overheated during exercise.
• Before undergoing any surgical procedure, tell your surgeon or dentist that your doctor has advised Prazopress XL for high blood pressure control.
• The elderly could be more sensitive to the adverse effects of prazosin, especially drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness. These side effects may increase the risk of accidental falls, causing fractures in older people.
