Naltima (naltrexone) is an opioid antagonist and does not cause withdrawal symptoms when you stop using it. • Before starting treatment with Naltima, patients should wait up to 7 to 14 days after their last use of opioids.
• For opioid addiction, your doctor may advise Naltima 50 mg (half tablet – 25mg) and then the other half-tablet after one hour. After that, you can start taking Naltima 50 mg once a day.
• For alcohol addiction, your doctor may advise Naltima 50 mg once a day for several weeks and then taper dose to eventually stop the drug.
• Patients taking Naltima should not use any other opioids or illicit drugs, drink alcohol, or take sedatives or tranquilizers.
• You can take this medicine with food or milk to prevent gastric irritation. You may also take it with antacids to prevent heartburn.

  • Have liver problems, use any illegal drugs, have hemophilia or any other bleeding problems, have kidney problems, or any other medical issues
  • Are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding; that’s because the drug is not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Taking medications (prescriptions and non-prescription medicines), multivitamins, or herbal supplements; that’s because certain drugs interact adversely with Naltima
• It is important for your doctor to know if you are currently taking any medicines for pain, cold, cough, or diarrhea, which may contain opioids.
• Avoid using Naltima if you are allergic to naltrexone or any other opioid antagonists.

• Upon stopping Naltima treatment, you may become more sensitive to opioid painkillers, and you may be at risk of developing serious side effects from opioids.
• Before undergoing any surgical or medical intervention, tell your doctor/surgeon that you are taking Naltima for opioid addiction or alcohol addiction.
